Brisbane Pride and F1 Thunder: A Fan’s Tale of Two Passions

Footy’s a massive part of my life, AFL, of course. I bleed maroon, blue and gold. The Brisbane Lions have been my team since I was a kid, and I still remember sitting on my dad’s shoulders at the Gabba, watching them storm the field like warriors. The feeling when the stadium erupts is something that you can’t fully understand unless you have experienced it. That feeling when the Lions win, especially a close one, is unmatched. It’s not just a game for us; it’s a passion, a ritual, and a source of endless pride. I’ve watched them rise and fall, gone hoarse from shouting during finals, and worn my Lions scarf even in the middle of summer because, why not? Supporting Brisbane is more than just fandom, it’s family, it’s legacy. And seeing them fight hard every season keeps that fire alive in every fan's chest, including mine.
Now, while footy holds a big chunk of my heart, the 2025 Australian F1 Grand Prix absolutely blew my mind. I’ve always followed F1 casually, but seeing it live at Albert Park in Melbourne this year was next-level. The atmosphere was electric, engines roaring, fans from all over the world buzzing with excitement, and the track action was unreal. The weather was not great but none the less, the city was alive, and when the lights went out, the adrenaline rush hit like nothing else. Aussie driver Oscar Piastri put in a stellar performance, and the crowd went ballistic every time he passed by. It wasn’t just about the racing either, it was the vibe, the energy, the feeling of being part of something massive right on home soil. I left the circuit that night sun-kissed, exhausted, and completely exhilarated. It was hands down one of the best weekends of my life.
